Annual Charity Dinner – Shamrock Lodge Hotel, Athlone – 2024

October 15, 2024

In what is always the biggest night in the AICSC’s Calendar, we were delighted to welcome our members to the Shamrock Lodge Hotel in Athlone, Co.Westmeath for our 23rd Annual Charity Dinner. It was great to see people travelling to the heart of the midlands for catch up’s and a few scoops with friends new & old. The festivities begun Friday, 11th October in the Castle Inn with music by Richie Prendergast, who had people up on their feet and entertained.

This years beneficiary, was The 12th Lion Charity, which was set up by our Honorary President and Lisbon Lion – John Fallon. Sadly John was unable to attend the Dinner on the night due to health reasons but did forward on a heartwarming message of thanks and gratitude. We wish John a very speedy recovery.

We were thrilled to be once again joined by Celtic CEO – Michael Nicholson who took time out of his very busy schedule. Former Celtic Captain and fan favourite Roy Aitken was also in attendance along with the current Player Pathway Manager – Darren O’Dea. All 3 were only too glad to pose for pictures and sign autographs all night. We thank them for joining us.

A special mention to Gerry Bristow & Jack McHugh of Celtic FC Security, who accompanied the Scottish Premiership and Scottish Cup Trophies across the Irish Sea to have them on display throughout the evening. They couldn’t be more obliging with their time.

To the members of Athlone CSC, namely Mono Mooney, John Ryan, Conor Ryan & Digger Moran, who played a huge role in the organising of the event in their town, their assistance was invaluable in making the weekend a massive success. We would like to thank everyone involved, who made it a night to remember.

Also, we want to thank all the amazing staff of the Shamrock Lodge Hotel. Nicola Nestor and all the team there were brilliant with us. The night could not have went better and due to their fine work, it left a lasting impression on us all!

Due to the collective effort from all the previously mentioned, and from the diligent work of our own committee, we are delighted to announce that a total of €6,000 was raised for the 12th Lion Charity. This was presented on the night to our special guests, along with an additional £4,500 raised by Bhoys of Erne CSC Member, Ray McFarland, who cycled from Malin to Mizen Head earlier this year, in support of the same charity. In total, in excess of €10,000 will go towards John’s charity in building a school for underprivileged kids in Western Equatoria.

Thank you all for your incredible support and roll on next Years Dinner.

Planning already underway!
